The Mayor of Boise appoints a local arts organization and/or individual as the Boise Cultural Ambassador (BCA) to exemplify the best of Boise’s vibrant and diverse cultural community. The honor signifies Boise’s commitment to local culture. The Boise Cultural Ambassador (BCA) is appointed at the Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in Arts & History during odd-numbered years and serves a two-year term. The BCA receives funding for the term of the award, offered in varying amounts depending on financial availability
Mayor Bieter and the City Council approved the creation of the Cultural Ambassador program in 2010 to demonstrate the importance of arts and culture in the city.
In September 2015, Mayor Bieter announced that Treefort Music Fest and Pulitzer-Prize winning author Anthony Doerr will serve as the City’s co-cultural ambassadors until the end of 2017.
