2018 Grow Smart Awards Given to Fire Stations 4 & 8
Boise Fire Stations 4 and 8 have been chosen by Idaho Smart Growth to receive a 2018 Grow Smart Award. The stations were chosen for incorporating pedestrian-friendly design, sustainability strategies, public programming and for adding open space with public art into their neighborhoods. Special thanks to Cole Architects for the nomination. Boise Fire will accept the awards at the 2018 Grow Smart annual awards celebration on November 5, at Boise Centre East.
This year’s program highlights the importance of urban renewal tools in advancing smart growth projects in Idaho. Smart growth strategies help growing communities bring positive social, environmental and economic benefits to all residents, visitors and local businesses. For the past 14 years Idaho Smart Growth has presented the Grow Smart Awards to recognize projects and plans from around the state that are excellent examples of smart growth “in action.” Award nominations are reviewed and selected by a jury of experts for their application of smart growth principles. A total of ten projects are receiving the award this year, including The Grove Plaza and The Watercooler project.
The City of Boise will continue to build energy efficient buildings, as a part of our goal to have all our facilities be run by renewable energy by 2030, as outlined in this year's State of the City address.
