National Night Out

On August 7, 2018, join the growing number of parties planned for National Night Out in Boise !

National Night Out (NNO) is a unique event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.  The National Night Out campaign has involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. Over 37 million people have participated in NNO worldwide.

Celebrate National Night Out in Your Neighborhood!

This year in the City of Boise there are over 50 parties planned for National Night Out.  More and more neighborhoods are getting involved in the annual event and making it a priority to get to know their neighbors and build community-police partnerships.  National Night Out is celebrated across the country on the first Tuesday in August and is designed to help build safer and more caring communities.  Organizers who registered their parties with Boise Police can request visits from police officers, fire fighters, paramedics, city council members, and other city agencies.

FIND YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD CELEBRATION

“Neighbors who know each other and their area police officers are more likely to keep an eye out for each other and report suspicious activity,” said Captain Paul Burch from BPD’s Community Outreach Division. “Boise is full of welcoming people and neighborhoods and National Night Out gives us a chance to celebrate those relationships and continue to support each other for years to come.”

What is the Purpose for National Night Out?

NNO is designed to:

  • Heighten awareness around crime and drug prevention;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships;
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods 'celebrate' NNO with a variety of events and activities such as:

  • block parties,
  • cookouts,
  • visits from local police, fire fighters, paramedics, and city officials.
