New Spot for Dogs to Splash and Play

Work has begun on a new addition to Ann Morrison Park: Together Treasure Valley Dog Island. The project will turn a section of the southwest corner of the park into a year-round destination for dogs and their owners.

Together Treasure Valley donated $50,000 in funding to make this approved portion of the park’s updated master plan a reality. The Harry W. Morrison Foundation also made a $50,000 donation toward the project.

Plans for the island include an active dog area that will span about 5.4 acres, a fenced off “shy dog” area and opportunities for Fido to swim and play in the surrounding pond.

Water quality enhancement work has already begun to remove sediment and organic materials from the pond. The Boise Parks and Recreation and Public Works Departments are teaming up to complete this first phase of the project.

Construction of future amenities will take place over the next few months and if everything stays according to schedule, Together Treasure Valley Dog Island could open for use by June 2019.

This project will impact the Ann Morrison Park Disc Golf Course. Boise Parks and Recreation project managers are working closely with members of the local disc golf association to plan for the future and relocate several holes.

It’s also worth noting that creation of Together Treasure Valley Dog Island will not change Ann Morrison Park’s current seasonal dog off-leash schedule. The park will continue to be open to off-leash pets November 1 through the end of February.
